MAITLAND, Fla. — KMI International has been awarded the Owner’s Representative Services contract by Canaveral Port Authority for the Cruise Terminal 10 (CT10) Landside Improvements project at Port Canaveral.
The CT10 Landside Improvements project will support the expansion and renovation of the reimagined facility which is located within one of the world’s busiest cruise ports. Planned improvements include an expanded baggage screening building, passenger queuing zones, electrical upgrades, and roadway enhancements designed to accommodate some of the world’s largest cruise ships accommodating up to 6,700 passengers.
As Owner’s Representative for the CT-10 Landside Improvements project, KMI will serve as an advocate for the Canaveral Port Authority throughout construction, helping protect the Port’s interests while supporting coordination among the Authority, construction team, designers, and key stakeholders. KMI’s scope includes pre-construction support, constructability review, schedule and budget analysis, daily construction oversight, quality assurance and quality control monitoring, site safety evaluations, financial review, change order analysis, reporting, documentation, and compliance tracking.
KMI’s current role continues a long-standing relationship with the Canaveral Port Authority that began in 2016 through a Master Services Agreement for Professional Project Management Services. Under this agreement, KMI has supported continuing service projects through preplanning, design coordination, procurement support, construction phase services, project staffing, progress reporting, records management, and closeout support.
KMI previously managed the $35 million CT10 Pier Modification project in 2016, a six-month project that included pier repairs and reinforcing, new manifolds, fenders, and bollards, and the installation of two state-of-the-art mobile gangways to accommodate larger cruise ships.
KMI also provided Owner’s Representative and Project Management services for Port Canaveral’s Cruise Terminal 3, one of the largest projects in Port history. Completed in 2020, the 188,000 SF terminal was constructed to accommodate Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras, the first liquified natural gas (LNG)-powered cruise ship based in North America. KMI provided daily quality assurance inspections, monitored construction progress, reviewed work for conformance with contract documents, and supported issue resolution, working closely with the contractor and owner teams to deliver the project under the guaranteed maximum price.
“KMI is proud to continue supporting the Canaveral Port Authority on complex cruise terminal and port infrastructure projects that enhance operations, improve the passenger experience, and support the continued growth of Port Canaveral,” said Mike Kraus, Co-Founder and Board Member of KMI International. “Our team understands the importance of serving as an extension of owner staff, maintaining active operations, managing costs, and delivering high-visibility projects with multiple stakeholders and schedule-sensitive requirements.”
The Cruise Terminal 10 Landside Improvements project reflects Port Canaveral’s continued investment in infrastructure that enables the port to deliver a high-quality experience to guests and its cruise line partners.
