JACKSON, N.J. — Wild Safari at Six Flags Great Adventure is celebrating the arrival of more than 30 baby rheas born over the past week, adding an exciting new chapter to the park’s ongoing commitment to wildlife care and conservation.
Native to South America, rheas are large, flightless birds closely related to ostriches and emus. While adults can stand nearly five feet tall, the newest members of the Wild Safari family are currently fluffy chicks that are already exploring their habitat under the watchful eye of their parents and the park’s animal care team.
“Welcoming more than 30 healthy rhea chicks in such a short period is an exciting milestone for our animal care team,” said Dr. William Rives, Director of Six Flags Wild Safari. “These births are a testament to the exceptional care our animals receive, and they offer guests a unique opportunity to observe these incredible birds during the earliest stages of their lives.”
Known for their long legs, curious personalities and social nature, rheas are one of the many species guests can encounter throughout Wild Safari. The newly hatched chicks can often be seen staying close to adult birds as they learn to navigate their surroundings.
Guests visiting Wild Safari this season are encouraged to keep an eye out for the adorable arrivals as they embark on their first adventures.
Wild Safari is home to more than 1,200 animals representing species from around the world and provides guests with an immersive off-road wildlife experience unlike any other in the region.
Visitors have a limited time to meet the newest additions to the Wild Safari family, as daily Wild Safari operations conclude for the season on September 7.
