Carowinds opens WindSeeker

WindSeeker, a thirty-story-tall tower swing ride was ready to thrill guests when Carowinds opened for the 2012 season on March 31.

Supplied by Mondial, the new $6.5 million attraction is located in the Carolina RFD section of the park adjacent to the Nighthawk and Carolina Goldrusher roller coasters.

WindSeeker’s three minute ride begins when its carriage, featuring 32 two-passenger seats, slowly rotates while climbing to the top of a 301-foot tower. Riders experience a sense of weightlessness as the swings reach speeds of up to 30 mph and the arms extend outward at a 45-degree angle.

Complementing the recently-added Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular, WindSeeker features an elaborate LED lighting system. Aside from the LED spotlights located at the top and bottom of the tower, the ride’s carriage is equipped with LED light strands that radiate from the tower and down each of the ride’s steel arms. At night, as the carriage ascends to the top of the tower, the light display comes to life with a kaleidoscope of colorful patterns and shapes. In addition, WindSeeker is equipped with speakers that play up to eighteen popular music tracks.

“This is a must-ride attraction for both families and thrill-seekers alike as the sense of soaring thirty stories in the air is both exhilarating and breathtaking at the same time,” said Bart Kinzel, Carowinds’ vice president and general manager. “The immense scale of this ride alone is truly stunning as it changes the skyline of Carowinds for the third time in as many years.”

Along with the addition of WindSeeker, guests will enjoy several other enhancements around the new ride, including a series of shaded benches for spectators.

Following Carowinds’ debut, the sixth Cedar Fair WindSeeker installation is slated to open next weekend at Virginia’s Kings Dominion.
