SeaWorld San Diego sets Manta's first track section

On Halloween, SeaWorld San Diego marked a major milestone in the construction of its new-for-2012 Manta double LSM launch coaster. Eight months since construction began, the first track section was set into place. Crews have a total of 98 sections to set with most are expected be installed by the end of the year. The track sections will be erected upon 100 columns with the tallest column being more than 26 feet. The longest section of track is 36 feet and the heaviest weighs more than 7,700 pounds. The Mack Rides-designed coaster consists of 2,800 feet of track, including the new double backbone sections that will take guests on a 60-foot “lake drop at speeds of 43 mph.
