Early this morning, Silver Springs animal care team discovered one of the park’s two giraffes, Kimba, had passed away. She was 29 years old. At this time the cause of death is unknown and a Necropsy will be conducted to determine the cause. The lifespan of a giraffe is typically 30-35 years.

Kimba was born at Silver Springs in 1982. Joanne Zeliff, the park’s Wildlife Manager, hand raised Kimba, and for 29 years she, along with Khama, shared living quarters in the “Giraffe Paddock”, where both have provided fond photographic memories for millions of visitors to Silver Springs. Ms. Zeliff, said that “having bottle fed Kimba made her a special addition to Wildlife and she will be missed.”
