Knoebels to reopen Saturday

Despite the tremendous amount of damage from flood waters that recently ravaged Knoebels’ Amusement Resort, the park plans to reopen at noon Saturday and a spokesman says at least 37 of its rides operational.

The park last week suffered extensive damage by water from Roaring Creek and Mugser’s Run, but cleanup and repairs began as soon as the water receded.

“Many of you will have heard that we suffered severe flooding from Tropical Storm Lee. This flood even exceeded the historic Agnes flood of 1972. We are proud to announce that we have worked very hard and we are ready to re-open,” said spokesman Joseph Muscato.

Each ride that will be in operation has been inspected and tested. They include the Phoenix and Twister wooden roller coasters, Balloon Race, Fandango, Kiddie Hand Cars, Kiddie Boats, Kiddie Whip, Kozmo’s Curves, Merry Mixer, Grand Carousel, Paratrooper, Scenic Skyway, Wipe Out, Pioneer Train and Skloosh. Additional rides could be ready by Saturday, Muscato said.

Most gift shops, games and food stands also are expected to be open, he said. The park will be open until 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
