For over 40 years, patrons have been mystified by the spooky scenes in the Whacky Shack and Pirate’s Cove attractions at Waldameer in Erie, Pa. Now, a newly-released DVD unravels those mysteries taking viewers on a guided tour through the twisting, turning corridors of these classic rides led by Waldameer maintenance supervisor Perry Duncan. Also in “Laff In The Dark’s Behind The Scenes At Waldameer’s Whacky Shack & Pirates Cove” are extensive interviews with Duncan and park owner Paul Nelson, who share details about the design and construction history of the Shack & Cove and their association with the legendary Bill Tracy, who designed both attractions. In addition to providing lights on and lights off rides through the attractions, the documentary explores the Shack’s cars and the Cove’s sound effects. Plus, seven bonus features include a demonstration of the Shack’s barrel, chronicle the restoration of a Tracy-designed figure and provide a thrilling ride on Waldameer’s rip-roaring Ravine Flyer II coaster.
The DVD is just $19.95 and can be purchased online.
