Anaheim, Calif. — With a red carpet roll-out, a couple of high-octane parties and an enthusiastic chorus of automotive horns, Cars Land — the sprawling new themed area within the Disneyland Resort’s revamped Disney California Adventure (DCA) — was test-driven by the media and VIPs on June 13-14 before its public unveiling Friday, June 15.
Based on the setting of the popular Disney-Pixar film series Cars, Cars Land is a full-scale recreation of a neon-laced, 1950s-60s Route 66 desert town. It contains three major ride attractions amid its wholly immersive 12 acres and dramatically soaring Ornament Valley backdrop: Radiator Springs Racers, Luigi’s Flying Tires and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree.
Meanwhile, the entrance to DCA, now called Buena Vista Street and rethemed to early 20th century Los Angeles, has introduced the Red Car Trolley and a new central landmark, the Carthay Circle Theatre. Throughout the park, there are eight new food locations (including the Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge), nine new shops and more than a dozen new entertainment experiences.
These improvements complete a five-year, property-wide upgrade and expansion of DCA and the Disneyland Resort.
“From the thrills of Cars Land to the romance of Buena Vista Street, the work that’s been done throughout this entire expansion is extraordinary,” said Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. “Disney California Adventure is a testament to what we at Disney Parks do best — connecting our guests to the iconic stories, characters and music they love, helping them make shared memories to last a lifetime.”
“Every component of our expansion — from attractions, merchandise and dining locations to new entertainment and reimagined hotels — has been crafted to add exciting new pages to our 57-year-old story,” said Disneyland Resort President George A. Kalogridis. “Now, more than ever, the Disneyland Resort makes the Anaheim/Orange County region a multi-day, family vacation destination second to none.”
