ABC-TV’s Emmy Award-winning hit reality show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (EMHE) will join Morgan’s Wonderland in a unique collaboration to build a new home for a deserving family in Greater San Antonio, officials of the TV show and theme park announced today.
“Just like EMHE, Morgan’s Wonderland is all about changing lives for the better,” said Gordon Hartman, CEO of The Gordon Hartman Family Foundation and driving force behind the creation of Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first ultra-accessible family fun park designed for those with special needs in mind and built to be enjoyed by everyone.
“This is the first time in EMHE’s nine seasons that a non-profit entity like Morgan’s Wonderland has been chosen to play the lead coordinating role. We’re honored and pleased to tackle this challenge, which will be another exciting chapter in the unfolding story of Morgan’s Wonderland.”
Hartman, who was a successful builder and developer before becoming immersed in the creation of Morgan’s Wonderland and other causes to help those with special needs, will use his three decades of construction expertise to assemble a homebuilding team and coordinate the team’s efforts. It will require hundreds of craftsmen and community volunteers who wish to donate their time and talents to the project.
Those who wish to volunteer for this once-in-a-lifetime project, help sponsor it or contribute money or resources can visit www.MorgansWonderland.com for details. In addition to the skilled trades, volunteers will be needed for general-labor assignments such as registration, serving food, safety, traffic control and site clean-up.
Details of a pep rally for EMHE-Morgan’s Wonderland volunteers, who must be age 18 or older, will be announced before construction begins in mid-January, Hartman noted.
“The fortunate family and the exact location of the project won’t be announced until next month,” Hartman said, “but it will be somewhere in Greater San Antonio. In just a week’s time, a new home will be built from the ground up, and the family members’ lives will be totally transformed for good. We can’t wait for EMHE team leader Ty Pennington to surprise the chosen family with his legendary loud and enthusiastic ‘good morning’ greeting!”
