West Mifflin, Pa. — Kennywood, America’s finest traditional amusement park, invites guests to join in the fun at Celebrate America, beginning Saturday, June 30, and continuing through Thursday, July 5, 2012. Join our week long salute to the red, white and blue with special events and entertainment, craft vendors and fireworks every night!

Celebrate America brings many extras to Kennywood including the 8th Annual Weiner 100 Dachshund Race. This event is sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face as 28 excited Dachshunds race in four heats in a mad dash for the finish line. The race starts Sunday at 3 p.m. in the lawn behind the Carousel.

“Guests love the Annual Weiner 100 Dachshund Race,” exclaims Jackie Mitko, Kennywood’s Celebrate America Coordinator. “The dogs are too cute and the controlled chaos of the race combined with the excitement of seeing one of the dogs cross the finish line make it a lot of fun for everyone involved.”

Mimes, jugglers, stilt walkers, unicyclists, magicians, and other talent join Uncle Sam in performing around the park each day. Additional fun surrounds the park’s Lagoon with live ice carving and carousel horse carving demonstrations and several antique and classic cars on display.

Guests can take time to relax in Pavilion 23 while enjoying some of the region’s most talented musical groups, including Big Fat Jazz Band, Carrick High School Steel Drum Band, East Wind Symphonic Band, country group The Stickers, 80s band Dancing Queen and more.

Each night concludes with a Celebrate America tradition as the sky lights up with flashes of red, white and blue fireworks! Pyrotechnico, Inc starts the show each evening at 9:30 p.m. (weather permitting).
